A&S Practice this Sunday: A medieval book tasting
Rhiannon will bring along a show and tell collection of leather bound books to illustrate a few medieval European book binding techniques. Her display will include at least one girdle book and and two ‘altar’ books, one (1600’s) bound in wooden boards covered with leather, along with a recent 2008 book bound by a laurel friend. The collection is from her study on medieval book markers. This presentation is a precursor to our group’s interest in creating girdle book holders to disguise cell phones at events.
Do you have handbound books?
Please bring your samples as well and see which techniques and which materials apply to our chosen timeframes.
