Mistress Rhiannon is currently interested in historical spindles and distaffs/distaves (videos). See URLs below for summary and videos of research. She has researched and published on fingerloop braiding (CA 108) and written academic papers on medieval bookmarkers.
Other interests are concentrated in fiber/textile pursuits, leather working (shoes) and woodworking–both lathe turning and green wood working to produce recreations of textile tools. Also, bandweaving and looms for band making;
She has taken two fleeces and hand spun, hand dyed, and hand wove 10 yards of fabric to produce all the hand sewn woolen clothing from the Bocksten Man find. (This research was presented at Kalamazoo and entered in Ice Dragon/Pennsic.)
Further, she is interested in straw items, such as straw for bed mattress, braided straw. She has taught all these topics in the SCA for 20 years.
